Light scattering by light diffraction
The diffuser is custom-designed for the relevant application and scatters the light as required. Particularly popular are rectangular and circular patterns optionally with homogenous intensity or one that increases towards the edge of the projected image. It is also possible to combine the diffusers with other elements, such as lenses to create special forms of lighting.
Diffusers are also used in the area of 3-D sensing for so-called Time-of-Flight (ToF) applications.
